How To Restore Original Mac Icons

A while back, I posted a helpful tutorial on How To Change Mac Dock Icons. For those wondering how to undo this (sorry, no Command+Z for this one!), here is a quick fix for restoring any changed Mac dock icon back to its original. Best of all, it only takes 5 seconds to complete!

Restore Your Original Mac Dock Icon in 3 Easy Steps

Step 1

Open the information window for the application/program in question.

Step 2

Select the small icon in the upper left corner.

Step 3

Press “Command+X”. This automatically cuts the new icon and restores the default one.

It is that simple!!!

I’ve tryed this a couple of time along with pasting new icons. It shows the correct icon in Finder but not in the dock. What is going wrong? :/

Hi. This worked well for me with some apps (iTunes, Safari, Chrome, etc.) but when I got to the actual App Store it didn’t work! I had to change some permissions to get the image up, but then all I saw was the preview, so I tried CMD+X. Nothing. Any thoughts?
